Guide Comparison
Lovable vs Bolt: which is more secure?
Short answer
Neither is secure or insecure by default; both build apps whose data safety depends on Row Level Security (RLS) in a Supabase-style Postgres database. The difference is in the built-in checks. Lovable runs a free Quick scan every time you publish and offers a free on-demand Deep scan of your code. Bolt offers a database Security tab on all plans (the same checks as Supabase's Security Advisor) and a whole-project security audit on paid plans that doesn't use tokens. Both vendors say their scans don't guarantee security, so on either platform test with a second account and a signed-out request before launch.
Side by side
| Lovable | Bolt | |
|---|---|---|
| Automatic check | Quick scan on every publish: database rules, npm dependencies, unauthenticated MCP server | None automatic; run the audit from the Publish menu |
| Code review | Deep scan, on demand, free | Project security audit, paid plans, no tokens used, up to 30 a day |
| Database check | Included in the Quick scan | Database Security tab, all plans, same checks as Supabase Security Advisor |
| Automatic fixes | "Try to fix": 10 free fixes, renewing 24 hours after use, then credits | Audit fixes what it can; "Ask Bolt to fix" on the Security tab |
| Vendor caveat | "cannot guarantee complete security" | Flags open policies even when public access is intended; review each one |
The risk is the same on both
Both generate browser code that talks to the database with a public key. That's by design; what decides safety is RLS. The classic failures are the same everywhere: a table with RLS off, a policy like using (true) on private data (Bolt's "RLS Policy Always True" warning), or a secret key placed in the frontend to make an error go away. Bolt's docs note it may write open policies when your site has no sign-in.
What to do on either platform
- Run the platform's scans and fix every Critical or Error finding.
- Check each private table has owner-scoped policies (examples).
- Test with two accounts and signed out.
- Make sure no secret key is in the frontend.

Where we can help
Free instant check: paste your URL at patchandship.com/check.html to scan your homepage's JavaScript for secret keys and security headers (no signup, nothing stored). Paid, fixed price per app: Database Check, $49; Security Fix, $149 (every critical issue on our checklist fixed within 48 hours of working access); Fix & Deploy, $249. Otherwise a full refund if you ask within 14 days of purchase (Refund Policy). AI agents run the checks and a human engineer approves every change. Not a penetration test or a security guarantee.
FAQ
Is Lovable more secure than Bolt?
Not inherently. Lovable scans automatically on publish; Bolt's full audit needs a paid plan. Your RLS policies matter more than which builder you picked.
Are the security scans free?
Lovable: both scans are free; fixes beyond 10 free ones use credits. Bolt: the database Security tab is on all plans; the project audit is on paid plans and doesn't use tokens.
What database do they use?
Lovable uses Lovable Cloud (its built-in backend) or your own Supabase project. Bolt has its own Cloud database, which uses the same checks as Supabase's Security Advisor, or you can connect Supabase.
Can I trust a clean scan before launch?
Treat it as a good sign, not proof. Both vendors say scans don't catch everything; a two-account test shows real behavior.
