Related: from October 30, 2026, Supabase plans to require an explicit grant before the Data API can reach new tables in the public schema of existing projects, and a missing grant returns 42501 "permission denied for table" (a grant problem, fixed in the same migration as RLS).

Enable RLS, add one owner-scoped policy per operation on tables that hold per-user data, grant each role only what it needs. Never GRANT ALL to anon.
How we avoid breaking production
Nothing touches production until a human engineer approves it. We take a backup before migrations when your plan supports it. On Supabase Free we give you a one-command dump to run, or skip schema changes until you upgrade.
Access
A Supabase org invite with the lowest role your plan allows, never your password. On Free and Pro plans that access covers the whole organization, so you revoke it right after delivery (we send a checklist). On Lovable Cloud, a Lovable Editor invite covers the backend too.

Can I fix Supabase RLS myself?
Yes. Our free checklist walks through it.
Will turning on RLS break my app?
It can if policies aren't added in the same change. With RLS on and no policy, the API returns an empty list instead of an error, so pages just show no data. Ship RLS and its policies together.
Is the anon key in my frontend a problem?
No. The anon or publishable key is designed to be public; Row Level Security policies are what protect your data. The secret or service_role key is the one that must never be there, because it bypasses RLS.
